Practice Classes Introduction

For Expert Practice:   Opening

The class will have a few components to it. The first part will be about re-enforcing common opening ideas, and establishing basic opening principles. The class will always begin with a tournament where the students will be able to play against each other in different openings. The goal will be to have them be more comfortable with unique ideas in specific lines.

After the tournament, we will take up a few specific key ideas from the opening onto a study where they will be able to review it after class. I will give 6 questions as homework weekly that relates to the opening that we discussed in class, and how to punish opening mistakes as well as how to avoid any traps ourselves.

For Master Practice:  Taking advantage of weaknesses

This class will be a very nuanced and difficult one, specifically aimed for the top students at CCYC. The first component will relate to improving our minor pieces to place them on optimal squares that take advantage of your opponent’s weaknesses. Some may include a bad pawn structure, poorly placed pieces and a weak king. The second component of the class will be about how to create the weaknesses in the first place without creating any yourself.
I will give 6 questions as homework weekly that relates to the topic that we discussed in class, as well as a study link where students can review the material taught to them in class.
